As cool breezes reveal silver undersides
Of leaves, and goldenrod begins to burnish,
Monarchs gather nectar, suckling droves on bushes;
Yellowing corn tips stand man-high
Ready for the farmer’s combine.
It’s only September I protest,
Hurrying past shocking yellow fields,
Hurrying lest it all become
Too much.
